The Common Sense Society
Human Body
Likewise, every person is also different from the next. We can see these differences in the way people look and act. Some people have great bodies while some are overweight, skinny, tall, or short. Some people are smart and some dumb. Some people are attracted to the same sex and some are attracted to the opposite sex and some to something different. Some are healthy and some are sick. Some have physical disabilities and some are perfect. There are many things that make us different from each other but all the things that make us different are somehow encoded within minute fractions of our genetic code. We are only beginning to understand how they work. Many times we wish we had the physical traits or abilities of others and maybe soon we will be able to use science to get them.
Defects in DNA or differences in genes are things that we know affect items like looks and health and if we could fix those things perhaps we could all be perfect. The main problem with society today is that instead of trying to find ways to help people with these problems we discriminate against them. Scientific research has proven there is a strong subconscious bias against fat people. The Bible discriminates against homosexuals causing many religious people to do the same thing. Yet it is obvious that some people with homosexual tendencies also have differences in physical appearance. This proves that homosexuality is genetic not a choice. People with other physical issues did not make the choice to be that way and should not be discriminated against because of them.
The human body is special and life should be cherished. All people have a right to live life and they should have a right to live as long as possible by having access to the best possible medical care without regards to their financial status. They should be protected from harm. The strong have an obligation to protect the week and help those who cannot help themselves.
You don't have to be a biologist to see how closely people resemble gorillas and chimpanzees. Apes have hands and face much like ours. And they not only look like us, they share with us some human-like behaviors. They make and use tools. They murder each other. They have complex social hierarchies. They can learn to communicate using sign language and can complete complex tasks. Chimps DNA are 98% to 99% identical to humans at the genetic level. Tiny differences, sprinkled throughout the genome, have made them different.
